Welcome to Cetarrus – A Fantasy Worldbuilding Blog Built from Cards & Stories
So, the world of Cetarrus doesn’t exist—yet, that is. It’s to be forged one idea at a time.
Welcome, Tuqula or traveler. You’ve stumbled into something, a very specific sort of something that is. This will be a world shaped from legends, fantastic tradition, drunken ideas at 3 am on a work day, and the shuffle of a few well-worn decks of cards. Cetarr.us is a fantasy worldbuilding blog where I will be constructing, from zero, an entire world and possibly more. In time, you will find that:
- I’ll be inventing cities, countries, continents, cultures, languages, and magic systems.
- I’ll be writing in-world short stories, lore tidbits, and character vignettes.
- I’ll be using interesting tools such as Mythulu, The Story Engine Deck, Deck of Worlds, and the Lore Master’s Deck to explore interesting ideas and craft fresh creations.
- I’ll be exploring a new habit in writing and worldbuilding—consistently and hopefully a little obsessively.
There is nothing polished about what I’m planning as of now. It’s to be a living, breathing archive of a world constantly in progress. Things will change. Some stories will contradict one another. That’s all ok. It will reflect the nature of truly recorded history, which is to say, history written by time’s winners and losers. Not all recorded history is truth.
What to expect from this worldbuilding blog
I’m exploring a regular schedule for content right now but you can expect, at least, these predetermined areas:
- Lore & Legends: Myths, historical accounts, folktales, and strange rumors from across Cetarrus.
- Card-based Creation: Posts inspired by card draws from my worldbuilding decks. Weaving card pulls into cultures, locations, characters, or even stories.
- Fiction & Vignettes: Fiction from the world of Cetarrus, think grand tales all the way down to mundane moments.
- Behind the World: Reflecting on the creative process, lore organization, and random musings about this fantastic world.
- Conlang & Script Design: The evolving languages of the world and their respective writing systems.
- World Bible: A growing archive of canon facts, timelines, factions, and magic systems. Potentially usable for writing stories, games, or even RPG campaigns.
I’ll also post occasional writing prompts I find particularly interesting, blooper-style deck draws, and fascinating NPCs you may even want to steal.
But why am I writing this blog?
Because I love a world that feels used, worn, real. Like ancient ruins with dishes still on the table, echoing the lives once lived there. I feel the same way about stories with settings extravagantly larger than their stage.
Because sometimes I want to write, and sometimes I want to map out the water/sewage system of a desert kingdom on a planet with two moons.
Because my autism oftentimes demands I take on large creative projects, and worldbuilding gives me the exact amount of chaos to organize into something beautiful.
Because it’s possible that someone out there needs this strange little oasis to escape the mundane world. I know I do.
